For immediate release

(January 9, 2002 - Cleveland, Ohio)

A documentary entitled The Resettlement of Japanese Americans in Cleveland will air on Philadelphia's educational cable channel, DUTV Channel 54, on January 15 and February 12 of this year. The Resettlement of Japanese Americans in Cleveland highlights a piece of American history often forgotten about in classrooms and textbooks, the collection of over 120,000 Japanese Americans in 10 different internment camps spread out across the United States.

Once these families were released, they were not allowed to go back to their homes but instead were relocated to all corners of the country. Cleveland, Ohio, then a growing hotspot for industry and production became one of the many resettlement locations.

People who made their lives and started families here talk about their experiences of leaving the internment camps and the discrimination, the acceptance, the resentment and the encouragement that they encountered in their new hometown.

Media Design Imaging, Inc. produced The Resettlement of Japanese Americans in Cleveland and received a Community Service Award from the Japanese American Citizens League Cleveland Chapter for their work. More about the documentary can be found at http://www.mdifilm.com/OralHistory/docu.htm
