Twisted: A teenage Chinese national, whose diplomat father is posted to Cleveland, develops a homosexual crush on the son of another ambassador in this mulitculti coming-of-age drama with political-thriller overtones. The ambitious 16mm project hails from Cleveland-based Johnny Wu and Greg Petusky. Needed are a variety of Asian, Hispanic and Caucasian actors for principal and supporting parts (appropriate foreign language skills are a plus) for the planned September shooting. "Twisted" - "Jin" is a Chinese word meaning "strength," and it's also the name of the main character in this "trans-genre" project by MDI Productions of Cleveland, run by co-filmmakers Johnny Wu and Greg Petusky. Jin is the alienated 17-year-old son of Chinese diplomat stationed in Cleveland. An accomplished martial-artist, Jin carries out assassinations for some shady international characters, but what really threatens to get him into hot soy sauce is a developing romantic attraction for the male son of another ambassador. In other words, imagine the Sandusky gay coming-of-age drama "Edge of Seventeen" with less talk and more John Woo. Writer Johnny Wu (a member of the Kickboxing Hall of Fame) promises to have traditional Hong Kong martial-arts stunt sequences amidst the painful coming-out scenes. MdI plans to start shooting "Twisted" in September on 16mm. This Monday, July 12, they will be holding auditions for principle and supporting roles (Asian and Chinese-speaking talent especially welcome) at their studio at 2044 Euclid Avenue, Suite 410.
