Johnny Wu
He made his first feature film Twisted in 1998, shot in 16mm reversal, based on a true story, foretells a story of Jin, a Chinese Diplomat’s son and his double lifestyle: while working underground for the Ambassador and falling in love with another dignitary’s son, Fernando.

In 2001 Wu completed a documentary, with a small grant, entitled An American History: Resettlement of Japanese Americans in Greater Cleveland. An oral history about Japanese-Americans and why they relocate to Cleveland after being held in the internment camps. The documentary received a Cleveland Chapter’s Japanese American Citizens Leagues’ Community Service Award and was aired in many cities including Drexel University’s TV54, screened in Washington, DC with the participation of JACL’s Speaker Bureau members.

Since then, Johnny and his team at MDI has created many interactive multimedia packages, they were featured in the Smart Business magazine (March 2000 issue) for their Digital CD Card, Cleveland FreeTimes and Cleveland’s Scene Magazine, FilmThreat.com and many other publications.

Wu is also a strong supporters for Independent Pictures, formerly know as Ohio Independent Film Festival. He helped produced their successful annual fundraiser Summer Crush, which held at the Grid-n-Orbit night club in 2002 and at The Odeon Concert Club in 2003 with over 800 attendance including many representative and endorsement from officials of City of Cleveland. Nationally, Johnny is part of several independent filmmaking organizations including the American Federation of Film Producers, Indieclub.com, to name a few.

Johnny had filmed, produced and directed several short films including The John Doe Project, a brainstormed concept from Marc Moser, Johnny Wu, Greg Petusky and Patti Moser, which has been shown across the USA in many television broadcasting and was reviewed by the renown independent film website FilmThreat.com. The John Doe Project is a series of shorts not related to each other but with similar ties: The main character’s name is John Doe. Some of the shorts are based on real life experiences, others are fantasies we have experiences through dreams. In August 2002, John Doe’s The Vigilante and John Doe’s A Business Day were screened at the 3rd Annual Midwest Music Conference and Film Festival and at the 2002 Ohio Independent Film Festival and Market. MDI is currently producing John Doe’s One Time, where John Doe is trapped through time and John Doe’s A Fly In My Soup where John Doe’s is talking to a fly… Both shorts are currently available through DVD distribution in USA through ShortKutzdvd.com, Indieclub.com, Publifilm.com.

In addition to John Doe’s project, Wu also helped produced the feature film Haywire, wrote and directed by David Manocchio. Haywire was premiered at the 27th Cleveland International Film Festival, was one of the highest attended films during the festival this past March 2003 with two simultaneous screenings. It also debuted at Cedar Lee Theatre as a benefit Thursday, August 21, 2003. Currently Haywire is being represented to the American Film Market in coming February 2004 by Inferno Productions.

Warped Boxes, a sadistic short story of two sisters accidentally kill a man while trying to cover up the mess, but the hectic nature of the holiday season causes their plan and their sanity to unravel. The short has already received great comments from filmmakers across the US during an online test screening. It was written and lensed by Marcus Stavnicky and currently available on DVD distribution via Publifilm.com and ShortKutzdvd.com, this short film was recently screened on November 6th at the 2003 Ohio Independent Film Festival as part of their 10th year anniversary celebration.

The Chase, a 3 minutes short film of a woman and her chaser within a confined space of a freight elevator while having 2 rescuers on her aid. This short has screened across the US at several sci-fi conventions and festivals including the Queen City Video Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio, the MileHiCon in Colorado, the Mid-Ohio-Con in Columbus, PubliFilm September Festival and distributed by AtomFilms.com. Roger and Dave, a short film about the brothers: Roger and Dave during a typical day while caught between a women’s affection. The film with small cast: Erik Holmberg and Michelle Ehrman will also include a small subplot related to a medical disorder. Shown on November 6th at the Asian American Color of Film Festival at UC of Berkeley, 2003 September PubliFilm Festival, and on Cleveland’s Adelphia Cable. Recently finished award winning projects including A Joker's Card, and The Rapture. Currently finishing with short film Jean Claude The Gumming Zombie, a comedy zombie horror film.

Playing for Keeps is a gay vampire short film about love and power: a world renown classical pianist and Kyler O’Leary as the love interest.

Johnny recently was elected as the President of the Organization of Chinese Americans of Greater Cleveland for the term 2004 to 2009.
