Characters breakdown:

Character Breakdown:

  • ED, (singing role), mid to late 20s, – Self-centered, knows it all, learned martial arts all from watching it via TV and still thinks he can do it. Back story of him was that he has been ‘bullied’ because he was a bit slow or maybe just different from the rest of the group, and living in a small city where everyone knows everyone, it was hard not be ‘harassed’ by peers. He lives with his Mom, and whenever he’s home, he always stay in his room, turns the TV on watch martial art movies and mimics their moves. Inside his mind, he thinks he’s learning and becoming a better martial artist. (Yet, he doesn’t know the name of the techniques or what style they are)
  • Dave, early/late 30s – The dojo’s owner/master, a prodigy, he mostly seen cleaning the school or do not much, since he is the one that owns the school, he does internal martial arts (Taichi, Hsing Yi, and Baqua) so he is always not eager to do anything.
  • Sensei Birch, mid/late 20s-30s is Dave’s number one student and also the one that teaches the classes, he/she is calm but not as calm as Dave would be, he/she wears karate ki all the time even outside on the street.
  • Sean, (singing role), mid/late 20s, grew up along Ed and they used to play together, until he got annoyed that Ed is ‘slow’ and he felt that he is a jock and Ed is holding him back. Sean has a small following of people that do whatever he asks them to do, at the same time, they ‘pushes’ Sean to go overboard with things, and Sean for being a leader and not wanting to show weakness, would do such things to ‘make this passé follows him more’.
  • Ed’s Mom, (singing role), late 40s but young at heart, feels that she is yet to experience life and almost out and about every night. No martial arts training needed. 🙂
  • Peter, late 40s, Ed’s mom’s new bf, they have been dating for about a month. Peter has an alternative motive… Some martial arts understanding/training needed.
  • Peter’s son, (singing role), mid/late 20s, whom also a longtime friend of Ed and Sean but stopped hanging out with them when young , he’s goal is to make sure he is better than Ed and Sean. Acrobatic.
  • Day players:
    • Sean’s friends (total of 4 or 5), no need to sing, some have a line or two, some should be able to do some skateboarding/parkour, or acrobatics.
    • Martial Arts Students, 10, background or foreground, including two young girl. Some will do some martial art sparring with main/supporting actors
    • Background players/extra
